New Cookbook - Metuchen Meals

A community cookbook blending comfort foods and bold cultural mashups from Metuchen’s kitchens

By Marisol De Los Santos September 11, 2025

Eight years ago, Metuchen resident Kelli Yetsko started the Metuchen Meals Facebook group with a simple idea: create a modern space for neighbors to swap recipes, celebrate culinary wins, and get answers to food-related questions. What began as a local hub has since grown to more than a thousand members, inspiring both seasoned chefs and enthusiastic home cooks across the Brainy Borough.

This summer, Kelli, along with group co-admin Brian Glassberg, partnered with April Salazar to take the idea one step further—by turning the community’s favorite recipes into a cookbook. Fittingly titled Metuchen Meals, the collection is more than just recipes: it’s a celebration of creativity, culture, and connection. Inside, readers will find step-by-step instructions, vibrant photos, and an eclectic mix of dishes from around the world—alongside inventive fusions that could only be born in the melting pot of American kitchens. The result highlights the cultural richness and ingenuity of Metuchen’s cooks, proving once again that a home-cooked meal has the power to bring people together.

The lineup of recipes is as diverse as the community itself. From Three Bean Pumpkin Chili and Crispy Chickpea Burgers to Pernil, Eggless Flan Cookies, and Bea’s Passover Apple Fritters, there’s something for every palate. One standout is The McCuban, a surprising fusion of Irish and Cuban flavors dreamed up by a husband-and-wife team. Equal parts arroz con pollo and shepherd’s pie, it’s the kind of inventive comfort food that perfectly captures the spirit of the cookbook.

To date, sales of Metuchen Meals have raised $5,000, which will be split evenly between the First Presbyterian Church Food Pantry and It Takes a Borough.
